Hey everyone.
Well, things are finally getting back on track. I’ve focussed in on what I’d like to deliver and I’m happy with the plan. I’ve also teamed up with a dude who used to work at Irrational (2K). Because of his connection with the new X-Com game by 2K, he can’t help on Isochron, but we’re working on a smaller scope turn based tactical game on the side called Lost Company. It’s turned out to be really good for Isochron as it’s using the exact same tactical engine which means I can progress things on Isochron even when design and management get in the way of things
. I just finished a first cut of turn based AI for Lost Company – and that means a first cut of Isochron AI is just about done too.
So the next order of business for Isochron is to finally finish the top down view.
But I’m keen to hear from you guys – how often did you make your way to the top down view in UFO? A lot? Or was the isometric view enough? Personally I didn’t spend that much time in the top down view but I can see the tactical advantage of having one..
Anyway, keen to read all your comments!

I had to use the overview map in XCOM occasionally only to compensate for being unable to pan the map easily, just so I tell where things were in relation to each other.
Almost never, only when I couldn’t find the last alien
But in Jagged Alliance I used it a lot.
Good job on making a game. I’m about to start programming for iPhone because I always wanted to make something like this and games like x-com are almost nowhere to be found, even on PC.
Good luck on ressurecting the genre!
The Isometric view was perfect for those hard to see aliens hugging a wall, especially small ones like the brain suckers and poppers from Xcom Apoc, if there are small aliens, it will be great to have this view
I used it in apoc a lot, but mostly during my vehicle fights. Those it made keeping track of your scientists while they’re hiding in a base defense much easier. Also, if you’re shooting out a ceiling it helps keep you from accidentally jacking up your dudes. So the tactical advantage is really useful.
Keeping track of scientists is a good point..
Rather have it then wish it was in the final product
Yeah, I agree it’s something that should be in there, but I’m just trying to figure out how people use it so I can display the right kind of info on it.
It was most helpful in figuring out where my squaddies were seeing glimpses of aliens on those terror missions. Occassionally good for getting a feel for the situations in general, but I really didn’t spend all that much time in map mode.
Eagerly anticipating this one! We all want to get our hands on it, but take as much time as it needs.
…more meant to have an idea of the “big picture”, nonetheless useful for a strategic and precise placement of your mates…
Bottom line: WONDERFUL idea this iPad resurrection of xcom!!! Me and lots of friends looking fwd to having our fingers on it!
Great to see this project constantly updated, can’t wait to see the final product in the near-future!
