Thanks to Shyn0 for the art!
While the development of Isochron is firmly squared at iPhone and iPod Touch, there is no doubting that tactical management games and the iPad were meant for one another. The extra screen size that you hold in your hands really makes you feel part of the action.
And that’s where this week’s update comes in.
The scaled up menus will eventually be redesigned for the larger screen, but it still works quite well scaled up. The tactical view is a dream to play with all that extra map visible at once.
I’ll also have a story to show everyone soon to give a bit of background of the game world and it’ll highlight some of the things that make Isochron unique..
Until next time, Enjoy!
So you’ve probably heard about 2K’s announcement about an X-Com themed game being made – and you’ve probably also heard it’s a first person shooter.
There are a few disappointed people out there who can’t bear the thought of an X-Com FPS. But really, can you blame them for making an FPS style game? I believe any big budget input would ruin the experience of the original X-Com genre games. I could be wrong, but look at it this way – now you get the best of both worlds. You’ll get a big budget, heart racing FPS in the X-Com universe – and you’ll get Isochron with the same feel as X-Com but a whole new world to explore and ultimately defeat.
Anyhow, enough of that. I was hoping that I would be able to show off some special videos today but that’s not going to happen due to postal delays and mayhem so instead I’ll just leave you with that not-so-vague teaser and a world view screenshot. Vids will be posted as soon as certain things arrive..
This past week has been a big week in terms of donations – in both paypal and time donations.
The bulk of the money donations have gone towards finalising a few more of the races in the game and getting them all animated and ready to use.
I’ve also had three new volunteers put their hands up to help with some algorithm work, tech tree ideas and musical scores for the game. So a big thanks goes out to them. I’ll be putting together a credits page very soon to credit the volunteers who want to be credited so keep an eye out!
Most of my time was spent getting the new people up to speed on my concepts and ideas, but that’s no excuse for not having something to show you guys. I’ve been working hard and I’ve just about finished the ‘object transfer screen’.
This screen is used to move objects from one place to another, or to buy and sell items. XCom provided a large list of up/down arrows to nudge objects from one place to another but that doesn’t quite work on the small screen.
Here’s Isochron’s take on the item transfer screen:
Selecting an item will show the specific base facility (or other container) that the object will be going to or from on the right of the page. In this example, the user is buying from the market and the clips are going to the general stores. The arrows will move items between the two containers one at a time or 10 at a time.
Eventually the space down the bottom next to the “Done” will be filled with filter buttons to only show personnel, tactical equipment, vehicle equipment or raw elements.
Once the list is a bit more interesting I’ll record a vid and show off how it works.
So once again, thanks for all the time and money donations from everyone – it’s really helping Isochron steam along at a very nice pace indeed.
